Delhi Declaration on Afghanistan Issue 2021
10th November 2021, Third Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan was organized at New Delhi. It was a National Security Advisor Level meet in which major 8 nations like India, Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan participated. These regional players were concerned with Afghan situation and crisis.
The meeting was chaired by India's NSA Ajit Doval. The NSA members from China and Pakistan were invited but didn't attend the meet due to unspecified reasons.
The meeting strongly focused on terrorism, a truly inclusive government in afghanistan that represents the general will of the people and unimpeded humanitarian assistance which people of Afghanistan seeks now. The present members also paid special attention to the current political situation in afghanistan and threats arising from radicalization, terrorism and drugs trafficking.
The declaration emphasized that Afghanistan's territory shouldn't be used for sheltering, training, planning or financing any terrorist acts while reiterating support for a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan.
Many members shared concern about terrorist groups active in afghanistan and their benefactors, it also stressed respect for sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and non interference in afghanistan internal affairs.
Significance of the meeting is India to underline it's role in regional efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan and to remain relevant despite kabul takeover by a traditional inimical Taliban.
In response to the Delhi Declaration meet, Taliban gave a positive response and reiterated its stated policy that its land will not be used against any country and the conference is in better interest of Afghanistan.
Delhi Declaration stated the next meet to be organized in 2022. And Troika Plus meet by USA, China, Russia and Pakistan would be organized at Islamabad on Afghanistan issue.
