Good Governance - A fact check to every nation
December 25th is considered as Good Governance Day in India it also marks the birth anniversary of former PM of India Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji. The Good Governance Day was started in 2014 to create awareness among the Indian people of accountability in government.
Every year government has started releasing the Good Government
Index prepared by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievance,
Government of India.
Good Governance Index is a comprehensive and implementable
framework to access the reality of governance across states and UTs and that
enables the ranking of States, UTs and their districts.
The Index has been created with an objective that can be
utilized uniformly across the states/UTs to access the impact of multiple intervention’s
undertaken by Central Government, respective State/UT Governments. The policies
and schemes formulated by the government is reaching people; are they really
benefiting the masses; does the policies need to be changed, if states under
performing in governance is ascertain.
The ranking of States/UTs are based on 10 Sectors. The Central & State Government performance is ascertain based on this

Good Governance Index measures the performance and
categories States & UTs into four Groups based on individual sectors and
also composite manner;
Group A States – Gujarat Topped, followed by Maharashtra
& Goa
Group B States -Madhya Pradesh Topped, followed by Rajasthan
& Chhattisgarh
North East & Hilly States – Himachal Pradesh Topped,
Followed by Mizoram & Uttarakhand
Union Territories – Delhi Tops the list
20 States have improved their composite GGI scores in 2021
Jammu and Kashmir registers 3.7 percent improvement in GGI indicators
in the period 2019 to 2021
