How long is India Russia Friendship ?

Post Independence, India has friendly relation with Russia (former USSR). Even the inspiration can be seen that India's five years plan concept was in reference to Russian way of economic and developmental planning.

In 1971, both nations formalised the friendship through Treaty of Peace and Friendship under which Russia gave War assistance to India to counter USA, UK and allies military during Indo-Pak war of 1971 to liberate East Pakistan and formation of Bangladesh.

In the year 2000, a step ahead was seen with India Russia Strategic Partnership Agreement marking the friendship into close allies.

This further got enhanced and strengthen during 2010 with signing of Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership of 21st Century.

India Russia Cooperation works under the following:

1. Intergovernmental commission for Technical and Economic Co-operation

2. Intergovernmental commission for Military Cooperation

3. Nuclear Cooperation

4. Space Program Cooperation

5. Regional Cooperation

Year 2021, marks the 21st meeting of both nations and a new mile stone to relations with Russian President visiting India and discussion on many topics and signing of new deals & pacts.

1. Procurement of 6 Lakh AK 203 assault rifles from Russia. It's joint production will be done at Uttar Pradesh, India.

2. Reciprocal Exchange of Logistics Agreement (RELOS) similar to LEMOA with USA

3. Afghanistan issues

4. China's aggressive military action on India's Northern Border

5. ASEAN potential for trade and development.
