Yamuna Froth Foam Toxic
Froth is water is not a new concept yet the froth formed in river like Yamuna is a major concern for central government along with state and regional administration. It's a kind of water pollution outcome which the humans and marine life would suffer if not treated with proper solutions.
The stretch between Wazirabad and Okla account for more than 80 percent of the pollution load in the river. These foam bubbles are lighter than water so they float over surface. Recently, devotees taking part in the chhath puja rituals were seen standing amidst the foam/froth in the Yamuna river.
The reason for the froth formation is presence of phosphate and the surfactants in the river resulting in the increase of amonia level of river. These pollutants are added to the river system by the industrial waste pollutants. The water falling from heights causes the foaming agents present in the waste water to form froths.

The effects of these froths are mild to dangerous for humans and water creatures. Short term exposure can lead to skin irritation and allergies. Ingestion can lead to gastrointestinal problems. Long term exposure lead to neurological problem and hormonal imbalances.
Federal along with local government should take preventive steps to avoid such issue in near future like waste water treatment plants have to be upgraded. A continuous natural flow of water has to be maintained in the river to prevent accumulation of toxic elements.
Hope you like the topic. Kindly suggest what other steps can be taken to avoid such issue in other rivers.
