Booster Covid Dose or Additional Dose
OMICRON variant of Covid19 has already been spread to different parts of World. After the cases from S. Africa and Botswana, the omicron variant was seen in Europe and parts of American continent. And now the variant is also present in Asia and all other corners of World.
After concerns of WHO on potentiality of high spread and precautions on containment. Many nations have stopped the international moment of people. Even many nations are in need of booster shots or additional doses to counter and spread of pandemic.
In India, National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization was formed to discuss the issue of giving additional shots of Covid19 vaccine to enhance immunity and vaccine for child immunisation.
It was also acertain that the experts group will formulate comprehensive policy on the matter, which will be guidance for detail plan.
Yet now, green signal on giving booster doses to population has not been given by expert group and they also need more scientific evidence to uphold the decision on booster dose.
What is Additional dose ?
Additional dose would be given to those persons, those who have completed both their earlier prescribed doses but their body is either moderately or severely having compromised immune response.
Inorder to improve their response to vaccine, they may be administer with additional dose.
This will vary from person to person based on immune system of individuals and their response to covid19 vaccine.
After two doses of vaccination, it was seen that few individuals did not develop enough immunity to fight against covid19 or may be termed as weak immune system of individuals.
In such cases, the additional dose might improve the chances to fight against Corona Virus.
What is Booster Dose?
Booster dose would be given (if decided) to all persons who have completed the vaccination cycle as prescribed by concern government, to further enhance the immunity.
In general, the booster shots sequence is decided by government in consultation with various experts and scientific & health advisors to enhance immunity of masses against particular pathogen.
It may be given after a fixed time interval like 6 months, a year or any gap time fixed in consultation.
The booster is to enhance the protection level by producing more antibodies which the original dose has generated and which may have been decreased over time.
It can be said that additional dose may be a full dose of vaccine but booster dose may be lesser in volume, just to increase immunity.
