End of Korean War 2021
June 25, 1950 was the day when North Korean army crossed the 38th parallel and near about 75,000 soldiers entered the South Korean region. This was considered to be an invasion through military action during cold war.
Ideologically, North Korea was backed by USSR (communist and single party) whereas South Korea was pro western (democracy).
USA entered the war on behalf of South Korea by July 1950 against the forces of communism. Both the cold war powers USA and USSR saw the Korean region as an opportunity to establish ideology.
Dating back to history, Korean region which was earlier ruled by Japan got its freedom from japanese empire post WWII and came to ideological conflict of global power post war.
In 1945, Korean peninsula was divided into two half with 38th parallel as boundary. Then the respective government cornered with ideological powers. N.Korea with dictator and communist party and S. Korean with democracy and people welfare.
Things went wrong in June 1950, when North Korean leader attacked Southern part in the name of unifying the region.
In the backdrop, the attack was condemned by many nations and United Nation passed a resolution condemning the attack and deployment of forces backed by 21 nations led by USA, this resulted to heavy military action and killings.
The forced went as far as the whole of North Korea and entered China, bring the newly formed China into war. China aided the North Korean forces with Russia and huge devastation was seen in the peninsula. Almost all participating nation suffered losses.
In March 1951, military action was stopped and table discussion was initiated to resolve the matter.
Two years of negotiation from March 1951 to July 1953 resulted into signing of "armistice" not a detail peace treaty.
The outcome of Armistice was
1. Prisoner of War were allowed to stay where they like.
2. New boundary near 38th parallel which gave 1,500 sq miles of land to S. Korea.
3. 2 miles demilitarize zone was set-up to prevent any further aggression.
After 70 years in 2021, the South Korean leader at UNGA reiterated that end of was declaration was very necessary for establishing peace in Korean peninsula. All stakeholders should hold negotiations and discussion on step towards normalisation of cold tension prevailing in the region.
This remark of S. Korean leader has bought light in the 21st century on establishing peace at some part of world.
