Samhati Project by Odisha to uplift tribal language
National Education Policy 2020 gave emphasis on teaching in Mother tongue for primary classes (upto class 5) based on particular states.
The policy also emphasis the new students enrolling for primary school to be taught with home language for easy acceptance towards education.
In relation to NEP 2020, Odisha govt took Pro active step for teaching and bringing more tribal students under schooling education program.
The project Samhati will impart education in various tribal languages and also bring the tribal languages under the educational ambit.
Odisha has near about 21 tribal languages of which only Santhali language is added under eighth schedule of Indian Constitution.
Odisha has diversified indigenous communities of people which comprises of 13 PVTG communities and over-all of 62 tribal communities out of which only Kui, Ho, Santhali, Sora, Munda communities have written scripts of their own and other tribal language are only spoken without presence of scripts.
Government has taken due steps to bring 21 tribal languages under Samhati Project. Books and reading materials are developed to facilitate the primary school students. Odisha School Education Program Authority and other associated bodies have been developing books (302 nos.) And more than 2,500 reading materials for primary classes.
Teachers training would be done for primary school level to ensure that knowledge of tribal languages for easy communication and better acceptance among students.
The project aims to cover 1400 schools having primary education and near about 2-3 lakh students up in the education system. Department of ST & SC development initiative to address the barriers faced by students from tribal culture in respect with present education pattern would be solved under this project.
Samhati project will be implemented under the guidance of SCST Research & Training Institute and Academy of Tribal Language and Culture. The project implementation would be challenging in respect to teachers training, material preparation, examination processes and acceptance among students would also play vital role.
